Even before going to press, many of the faithful showed tremendous interest in this new addition to the Akathist Series, which includes two canons to St. Mary of Egypt. Our nation is being devastated by a great spiritual tsunami of lustful passions. As Fr. Demetrios Carellas writes in the Introduction: “May this Canon to St. Mary, and the Spirit-filled prayers at the end, help us in our efforts to keep our souls from sinking under this soul-destroying tsunami. May we also offer it as an intercession for others who are under the control of this demonic weapon of mass destruction, and who—at present—do not have the desire, or strength, to escape its terrible impact on their souls.”
Includes a prayer against internet pornography.

By Metropolitan Ambrose (Ermakov) of Tver and Kashin
The spiritual life of every Orthodox Christian begins and ends in the heart. Whether we rejoice or suffer, love or hate, it is in our heart that we must find Christ. Metropolitan Ambrose has drawn on his decades of experience in theological education, his love for the Divine Services and his years as a monastic, to offer precious nuggets of wisdom on how to nurture the life of the heart.
Each short chapter addresses one element of the spiritual life, presenting a precious spiritual nugget in easily-accessible language. These reflections are divided into three sections: Meditations on Education, The Journey of Lent, and the Life of a Monk.
Vladyka Ambrose is the former abbot of Sretensky Monastery and has been rector of both the Moscow Theological Academy and the St. Petersburg Theological Academy. This soft-cover, perfect-bound book is richly embellished with dozens of full-color photographs. 192 pages.

Each year we begin anew the journey to the radiant feast of Pascha, entering the season of repentance known as Great Lent. The homilies presented in this modest volume, from one of the spiritual giants of the Orthodox Church of Russia, can both encourage and inform us in this struggle of the Fast.
For the first time a selection of St John's Lenten sermons is presented in English translation. They follow the thematic structure of the Lenten season in the Orthodox Church, from the Sunday of the Publican and the Pharisee through to Great and Holy Friday. A sermon for St Thomas Sunday, that follows Holy Pascha, is offered as an Epilogue.

In time for Lent, the Hermitage of the Holy Cross presents a brand new, beautiful, English language service book for the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts. For many years, there has not been available to ROCOR priests and deacons, a decent and easy-to-use English language service book for the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts. After over 12 years of editing and improving on existing texts, the fathers at the Hermitage have finally compiled an instructive and workable service book which uses common ROCOR prayers and petitions and which has proven to be an indispensable aid to serving the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.
The fathers at the Hermitage paid special attention to the formatting in this book, so that it is very "user-friendly." That is, we emphasized the unique parts of the service so that the clergy can more easily navigate the complicated parts of the service. This new book is also very beautiful. The artwork used throughout the book is inspired by ancient illuminated texts which have been faithfully rendered and recreated, making this service book a joy to behold. It is full color and nearly 80 pages long. The font used in the book is large and easy to read. The book is 5.5 in. x 8.5 in. and is spiral bound. This type of binding makes it easier to use because the book lays flat on the priest's analogies. The Hermitage brotherhood is very happy that God has allowed the printing of this much-needed book, which is the first liturgical service book for clergy printed by the Hermitage.

Over the centuries Orthodox Christians have utilized the time of Great Lent to contemplate the salvific Passion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ—the voluntary sufferings which He undertook out of love for mankind, in order to make possible our return from our fallen state to full communion with God. On the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ by St. Philaret of Chernigov is a grace-filled aid in this contemplation. Originally preached in Russian churches during Great Lent, these sixty inspired sermons are permeated with a spirit of sincere love for Christ and awe before His sacrifice for mankind. Chronologically tracing the period of the last four days of the Savior’s earthly life, they take the reader through every aspect of His Passion, providing Christians with fertile material for soul-benefiting meditation on Christ’s final teachings, sufferings, and death on the Cross.
In this English edition, a moving homily by St. Philaret on Christ’s Resurrection follows the discourses on the Passion.
St. Philaret (Gumilevsky), Archbishop of Chernigov (1805–1866), was a fervent and effective pastor of Christ’s flock, as well as a prolific Church writer. Born in a small village in Russia, he was the son of the village priest, himself a notable pastor and preacher. As a young man, he was blessed by St. Seraphim of Sarov, who said that he would “be glorified throughout Russia as a learned man.” He was a close disciple of St. Philaret (Drozdov), metropolitan of Moscow, the great Russian theologian. Consecrated to the episcopacy in 1841, he was first assigned to the cathedra of Riga, Latvia, where, thanks to his pastoral zeal, over 100,000 souls were joined to the Orthodox Church. He was later transferred to the Russian diocese of Kharkov, and then to Chernigov, where he reposed. His literary works include historical, theological, and homiletic books, as well as numerous articles. The present book was first published in Russia in 1858.

Praise for When You Fast
"This excellent 'how-to' on how and why to fast is just what I need, and I've recommended it to family and friends (who need it less than I do). The book is a valuable distillation of the Orthodox mind about fasting, all of it prayerful and profound despite its brevity. No fat whatsoever! This should be on the reading table of every Orthodox Christian." -Deacon Nicholas Dujmovic, Orthodox Church in America, and professor at Catholic University in Washington, D.C.
"When You Fast is a vibrant summons to follow one of the most basic teachings of the Gospels, as well as an encouraging and practical guide for doing so. Because almost everything we hear and see around us seems to promote the world, the flesh and the devil, Christian self-discipline is needed more than ever. Read this book and put it into practice. You and those around you will benefit." -James M. Kushiner, Executive Editor, Touchstone: A Journal of Mere Christianity
"Joseph Letendre’s When You Fast is a guidebook for experienced Orthodox Christians, those new to the Faith, or those questioning why we Orthodox fast. A must read before each fast, it’s a perfect reminder that fasting is not only an obedience, but a grace-filled privilege." - Cynthia Damaskos, Holistic Christian Life/Filled With Less

by Archpriest Steven John Belonick with Michele Constable and Michael Soroka / Second edition edited by Deborah Malacky Belonick
This unpretentious little book of meditations based on Scripture, ancient hymns, and writings from Church Fathers will nourish the souls of reflective seekers during the forty-day period of Great Lent. Authors of each meditation have delved deeply into the sins and shortcomings of their own hearts, enabling readers to share in a collective human experience - from darkness to light, from despair to hope, and from isolation to commonality in the body of Christ - as they move steadily toward our Lord’s Resurrection.
About the Author: Archpriest Steven John Belonick was Valedictorian of the Class of 1977 at St. Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary, Yonkers, NY. Throughout his 40-year pastorate as a priest in the Orthodox Church in America he served three parishes and also served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Chaplain at the seminary. His favorite Bible passage, John 21:15-17 - in which the Lord instructs his disciple Peter to “feed My sheep” - often strengthened him in his ministry, and it also inspired his guiding principle: “Above all, a pastor must communicate God’s love to His sheep.” Father Steven reposed in the Lord August 7, 2019. Memory Eternal!
Praise for Pilgrimage to Pascha:
"The Pilgrimage to Pascha is a lifelong journey, a walk into deep mystery. Father Steven, a seasoned journeyman, leads us carefully and delicately along the path. The living pilgrimage is a dark, yet light, journey that leads to the Cross, personal and non-negotiable, before we arrive at Pascha. With Father Steven’s deft guidance, we travel the path as sojourners with a clear and welcoming vision." -Albert Rossi, PhD
"This book is a treasure-house full of timely, practical, challenging, soul-searching wisdom for the spiritual life… Especially if this book is read prayerfully and humbly, we believe it will be helpful to many, in taking us deeper in our spiritual life; in helping us make more progress on the path of holiness in thought, word, and deed; and in ushering us into more profound intimacy with Christ - our Creator, Savior, and Benefactor." -Drs.
