This comprehensive work on the Orthodox Church's divine services was originally translated and printed before the Russian Revolution, and has since been re-edited to reflect current standards of English-language liturgical usage. The author begins with a discussion of the nature and origin of Divine services. He describes the church building, the persons who perform divine services and their vestments, the cycles of public worship, Great Vespers, Matins, Divine Liturgy, festal services, and different ministrations: Baptism and Chrismation, the Coronation Anointing of the Tsar, Consecration of a Church, Confession, Ordination, Matrimony, Unction, Prayer Services, Monastic Tonsure and Burial.
Helpfully illustrated, this manual represents a complete but accessible survey of everything related to the Orthodox Church's divine services. It is suitable both as an introduction to Orthodox worship for the inquirer and as a convenient handbook for those already familiar with the intricacies of Orthodox services.

One way in which we can increase the talents given to us by God is “to celebrate a service in splendor” and thereby “communicate the word to those untaught.” (From the Aposticha of the Matins of Great and Holy Tuesday.) A Practical Handbook for Divine Services will serve as an invaluable guide to all -- priests, deacons, servers, readers and singers --who seek to increase their God given talent in fulfilment of these words.
It will also encourage all the laity who desire to enter more fully into an understanding of the Church’s Typicon, the “rule” which governs how Divine worship is offered in the church, and to internalize the principles that underpin it. Whilst drawn from Russian sources, the texts also touch upon differences found in Greek usage. This is also a valuable resource for any student of Christian liturgy.

A Psalter for Prayer is the first major English edition to include all the prayers needed to read the Psalter at home according to an Orthodox tradition that reaches back to the time of the desert fathers, known popularly as the 'cell rule'. In addition, the contents include many texts, traditionally printed in Orthodox Psalters, that are not easily found in English, such as the Rite for Singing the Twelve Psalms, directions for reading the Psalter for the Departed and much more.

The Divine Liturgy of Saint James is the eucharistic rite of the ancient Church of Jerusalem and the most ancient extant liturgy of the Eastern Church. In recent decades, the frequency of its use has increased throughout the Orthodox Church. This service book offers for the first time a parallel Church Slavonic-English text, suitable for use by clergy and servers. It also contains the Divine Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts of the Holy Apostle James, which is rarely served today but has been preserved in part in a few Greek manuscripts and in full in several Georgian sources. An introduction by Dr Vitaly Permiakov, a specialist in the Jerusalem liturgy, presents the provenance and integrity of both ancient Liturgical services.
