The convent of Lesna was founded in Russia in the nineteenth century and was home to a miracle working icon of the Virgin. Following the Russian Revolution the nuns fled to the West taking the icon with them. They eventually found a new permanent home in France, bringing with them the miraculous Lesna icon of the Mother of God and this traditional akathist, which was composed before the Russian Revolution.
