What does gold-filled mean?
Gold-filled jewelry is much more valuable than gold-plated. In fact, there is almost 100 percent more gold in gold-filled items than found in gold-plated items. Gold-filled jewelry is best used where longevity and durability are a must. Just as gold-plated jewelry is plated with gold, gold-filled jewelry is as well, but there is a big difference between the ways these products are made.
Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. It is constructed in two or three layers. Gold alloy is bonded with heat and pressure to one or both surfaces of the core metal (typically jewelers’ brass).
You won't need to worry about gold-filled jewelry tarnishing, and even if you have an allergy to certain metals, you won't have to worry about allergies from metals such as nickel. Gold-filled items have a much thicker layer of gold on them, and the gold is a much higher quality. In fact, it is just a step down from solid gold when it comes to quality.
The biggest difference between Gold Plated and Gold Filled Jewelry? You can wear gold filled jewelry in the shower! That’s right – you can leave it on without the gold rubbing off like plated jewelry. No more worrying if you accidentally forget to take it off before washing your hands - in fact, washing your gold-filled jewelry with soap and water is how you keep it shiny and new!
Elaborately decorated with gold enamel, this gold-plated, brass cross is a beautiful and festive piece.

Nevsky's Books is proud to feature this exceptional cross. Meticulously hand-carved from maple wood, the outer layer exhibits bright, red garnets and the breathtaking carving of the Prayer to the Venerable Cross along the edge:
The core is masterfully fitted with inlaid cypress wood, featuring the crucifixion of our Lord. On the right arm of the crucifix are carvings of the Mother of God and St. Mary Magdalene. The left arm depicts St. John the Apostle and St. Longinus the Centurion. Two angels grace to top bar, bearing the words "Царь Славы" or "King of Glory."
Four garnets surround the "Not-made-by-hands Image of Christ," to which a smooth, adjustable wood-and-link chain is secured.
Inscribed on the back of this beautiful cross is the powerful verse:
