The icon is a replica in the Byzantine tradition, worked on by skilled hagiographers. This technique of copying original icons is called serigraphy. A serigraph is a silk screened image. With a serigraph, the original icon is digitally scanned to match every color and stroke found in the original. The finishes touching are applied by artisans specializing in woodworking and wax sealing. There is a very noticeable difference in the quality of a serigraph when compared to a lithograph (reproduction). Mounted on wood with a recessed border.
