Hermitage Incense: Byzantium

As Byzantium bridged the East and West, so this fragrance brings together our floral and spicy fragrances capturing the best of both worlds. A sweet and warm garden fragrance subtle hints of geranium, lily and wild berry, rounded out with neroli, cinnamon, clove, warm vanilla and galbanum.

This delightful fragrance was first introduced some years ago as ‘Sarov’ and since then has always remained one of the best-loved incense fragrances at the monastery. Although production stopped some time ago, due to customer demand and our own love of the fragrance we are now reintroducing it with a new name which does real justice to this wonderful and majestic incense.

This traditional Athonite-style incense for church and home use, is handcrafted at Holy Cross Monastery in West Virginia, in a wide variety of fragrances, suitable for every service and devotional occasion. The incense is made by the monks as part of their daily obediences. Produced from pure frankincense resin and cut for use in charcoal burning censors.
